GSP Good To Begin Camp In August, According To Trainer

Trainer Firas Zahabi believes UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will be ready to begin a full training camp this month. GSP is scheduled to return to action this November against Carlos Condit to unify the titles.

St-Pierre has been on the sidelines for well over a year now due to knee issues. His latest problem forced him to undergo surgery, keeping him from defending his belt against Condit and Nick Diaz.

Now, as he begins to work his way back into training, Zahabi told BloodyElbow in a recent interview that GSP should be right on track for a late fall return.

"I really think in August, he'll be ready to start a training camp again," Zahabi said. "I don't want to count my eggs before they hatch, but he's really looking good. He just started martial arts training; it's been about four weeks now."

Zahabi added that St-Pierre is sparring and wrestling, which is the first time he's been able to do in eight months. He also said, "It's going to take some time, but I tell you, Georges is a great athlete."
