Affliction PPV Numbers Between 50,000 And 85,000
Affliction PPV Numbers Between 50,000 And 85,000Yesterday, Affliction VP Tom Atencio had the following to say regarding the buy numbers for Afflictions first PPV event.

“I don’t have everything on that yet, but for the people who felt this was going to be a total flop in that regard, I have news for them. It’s already done a lot better than what I’ve heard people speculating. I’m not going to release the (official) number, but it’s already well beyond what people have been saying. Well beyond.”

Atencio went on to claim that the numbers were more than 100,000 buys, which would be considered a huge success. However independent studies have shown that number to be closer to between 50,000 and 85,000 buys. That according to Dave Meltzer.

"Based on independent estimates we’ve heard, the number has been estimated at between 50,000 and 85,000 buys," said Meltzer. "Atencio claimed the number as being higher, saying it topped 100,000, although at press time, any numbers could only be considered rough estimates. Atencio told us that since UFC doesn’t release numbers, he’s not going to either."

Meltzer went on to point out that PRIDE once claimed they did 150,000 buys for their US debut back in 2006 when the number was actually 40,000; so there could be a lot of posturing going on from Affliction.
