HBO has used the series to achieve major success in selling De La Hoya vs. Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. as well as Mayweather vs. Ricky Hatton.

The series was a major influence on the UFC's decision to spend close to a reported 2 million dollars on it's own version titled, "UFC Primetime".

The UFC hopes to utilize the series to sell what will be perhaps the biggest fight in it's long history; as UFC champions Georges St. Pierre and BJ Penn collide for the second time in their hall of fame bound careers.

The first fight was a back and forth affair which eventually rendered a split decision win for St. Pierre but could have gone either way. Fans on both sides hotly debated the decision for years after the fight and tuned in en mass to watch the first of three UFC Primetime shows that will follow the fighters and profile their training and personal lives.

SpikeTV announced that the ratings for the premier episode of UFC Primetime, which aired on Jan. 14, far exceeded any UFC Countdown show in history.

The half-hour debut pulled in 880,000 viewers and the immediate replay that followed brought in another 614,000 for a total of 1,494,000 viewers according to SpikeTV. This almost doubled the viewers of the highest scoring UFC Countdown show, which brought in 782,000 last year.

Be on the lookout for episodes two and three which air on SpikeTV starting Jan. 21 for episode two and Jan. 28 for episode three with the fight itself set to headline UFC 94 on Jan. 31 from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
