Randy Couture To Train Gina Carano For First Ever Female Five Round Fight
Randy Couture To Train Gina Carano For First Ever Female Five Round FightWhen Gina Carano and Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos meet in Strikeforce’s first ever 145 lbs. women’s title fight, they will be competing in true championship form. Strikeforce recently informed the two fighters that for the first time ever under their promotion, this female bout will be five, five-minute rounds. Able to finally “play” like the boys, Carano and Cyborg, regardless of the fight’s result, will make history when they step in the cage later this summer.

Meanwhile, it looks like Gina Carano will have a certain advantage over her opponent as MMAWeekly.com recently reported that Randy Couture has accepted Carano’s invitation to train and corner her for the biggest fight of her career.

Having been a longtime member of the Xtreme Couture camp, her training partners over the years have included some of the sport’s best on the male side. Tyson Griffin, Gray Maynard, and Martin Kampmann, just to name a few, have helped prepare her for fights in the past. But for the first time, the “Natural” himself, will be leading the charge in Carano’s quest to remain undefeated and on top of the female fight game.

The fight for supremacy in women’s MMA will take place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA on August 15th. Also on the card is a fight for the Strikeforce lightweight title, as Josh Thomson will look to defend his belt against Gilbert Melendez. Stay tuned to FightLine.com for more information on this card including additional bout announcements.
