Randy Couture Signs Extension With UFC Prior To UFC 102 Loss
Randy Couture Signs Extension With UFC Prior To UFC 102 Loss Following his convincing loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira on Saturday night, UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture announced that he had signed a six-fight 28-month contract extension to remain with the UFC earlier in the day. “The Natural” would be 48-and-a-half by the time his deal expires.

Win, lose or draw, following any Randy Couture bout you can be rest assured that the former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight king will be asked when he intends to hang up his MMA gloves for the final time.

No sooner than when he sat down at the UFC 102 post-fight podium did he receive an inquiry regarding his future plans.

What are you thinking, what’s next, are you going to retire, etc.

“I intend to finish my career here [in the UFC], it’s pretty simple,” Couture matter of factly stated.

Company frontman Dana White followed that up by detailing the specifics regarding Couture’s new agreement to remain with the world’s biggest MMA show. Assuming Couture can remain healthy following all of his matches, that would have him fighting every four-and-a-half months.

That’s not too demanding of a schedule for most youngsters, however Couture is no spring chicken. In fact, at 46 years of age, he’s not even the mother hen anymore.

There’s no doubt that he can still compete at a high level, his chiseled physique and Energizer Bunny-like motor are proof of that, but how much longer can he fend off retirement? He’s done it before, but the clock is ticking – 28 months to be exact . . .
