Randy Couture Looking At Move Back To Light Heavyweight
Randy Couture Looking At Move Back To Light Heavyweight Many watching UFC 102, including UFC color commentator Joe Rogan, thought that Randy Couture might retire following his unanimous decision loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Couture left the door open for extending his career and we found out why later, as Dana White announced that Couture had signed a new contract prior to the fight. “He’s got a lot of fights left on his contract, so what do you wanna do?” White asked emphatically.

“We just signed a new contract, today,” Couture explained.

Couture will retire when he’s ready and he’s going to retire as a UFC fighter, but that time is not now.

“There’s a lot more than 1 fight on the contract. 28 months, 6 more fights,” Couture continued.

So the question is, what’s next for the former light heavyweight and heavyweight champion? With back-to-back losses to Brock Lesnar and Nogueira, his road back to the heavyweight title could take too long.

One thing’s for sure though, Couture probably won’t get a chance to even the score with Chuck Liddell. According to White, “I don’t know if people want to see him and Chuck four times.”

“I’d love to see him at light heavyweight but he proves that he can hang with heavyweights,” White continued. “I mean he’s probably had the best fight against Brock Lesnar, other than Heath Herring, since Lesnar’s been in here.

“He’s always awesome at light heavyweight. I think he’s a monster at light heavyweight. It’s up to him to be honest with you, whatever he wants to do it’s on him.”

It’s a little too early to tell, but even Couture isn’t sure about his future saying, “As far as staying at heavyweight, going light heavyweight, you know what? I’m interested in interesting fights. There are a lot of guys in both divisions that are interesting to fight.”
