Shane Carwin has noted on his Twitter account that he’ll be officially fighting Brock Lesnar on January 2nd at UFC 108, barring any injuries or illness of course.
"Just received a bout agreement for UFC 108," The number one contender wrote. "Looks like January 2nd is the new date."
It had just been announced yesterday that UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar would not be able to compete at UFC 106 on November 21st because of an illness that he couldn’t shake.
Carwin was a little disappointed to see the least after hearing the news from the media. We should note that UFC officials were tied up yesterday at the The Ultimate Fighter Season 11 tryouts in Los Angeles and had just received word on Monday morning.
“It’s [disappointing] hearing about your career and life through the media. Nothing from the [bosses] yet,” Carwin tweeted after hearing about Lesnar’s illness.
Carwin noted yesterday in his interview with FightLine.com that he was going to get his team ready for their fights until he heard something official from the UFC. Then earlier today, Carwin wrote a blog on his official website to update fans about where his head was after hearing what was probably the worst news of his career.
“Fighting for the UFC belt is my path and honestly Brock coming down with his illness only gives me more time to be in that much better shape,” the undefeated heavyweight said.
Now that Carwin knows that he’s still going to be fighting Brock Lesnar for the heavyweight title, he can now focus on his training and he wants fans to know that no matter what, he’ll be in the octagon on January 2nd.
“I would have never pulled out of the fight. I would wheel myself to the cage if it was my choice,” Carwin proclaimed.
