Randy Couture vs. Brandon Vera

Round 1: Vera caught Couture with a kick early that fazed Couture. Vera pressed Couture against the cage, and Couture was able to get control. Couture kept Vera pressed against the cage before they were separated. Couture shot in, but Vera dodged, and Couture clinched Vera against the cage and took him to the ground. Vera made his way back to his feet, and Couture landed some knees to Vera's head. Couture grabbed Vera's right leg, but was unable to get a takedown. With 20 seconds left, Couture clinched Vera against the cage again, but was unable to do any damage. Vera did the most damage with the first few shots at the beginning of the round, but Couture controlled the rest of the round. FightLine.com scores the round 10-9 for Couture.

Round 2: Vera poked Couture in the eye early while attempting a low kick, and Couture was given a little time to recover. Couture continued to press forward and went for another takedown attempt, and pressed Vera against the cage. Couture continued to control the bout, but wasn't able to inflict any damage. The two were separated yet again, and Vera was able to land some effective kicks. He nailed Couture with a big kick that floored Couture. Vera jumped on top and attempted to finish, but Couture pulled guard and they were stood back up. Vera continue to land leg kicks before Couture clinched Vera against the cage. Couture landed some short punches against the cage as the round came to a close. Close round, with Couture controlling the majority of the round, but Vera inflicted the most damage and looked close to finishing at one point. FightLine.com scores the round 10-9 for Vera.

Round 3: Vera started the round with a nice inside leg kick, but Couture wailed away at Vera with short punches, before clinching against the cage again. Couture continued to dirty box, but again, wasn't doing much damage. Couture tried to complete his takedown attempt, but Vera defended it and they were separated again. Vera landed a kick to the body and a head kick, but Couture responded with some short punches. Couture continued to press forward, but Vera was able to push Couture against the cage and attempted a takedown of his own, which was stuffed. Vera was finally able to complete the takedown and got full mount, but Couture was able to roll out and get back to his feet. They traded blows as the round came to a close and embraced after the buzzer went off. Another close round, but FightLine.com scores the round 10-9 for Couture.

Randy Couture defeated Brandon Vera via unanimous decision (scores of 29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

After the bout, Couture noted that he controlled the tempo of the bout, and gave his props to Vera. Couture mentioned that light-heavyweight was a better fit for him.
